What is the facination with wearing clothing or shoes with skulls on them?

As a society why are we so obsessed lately with wearing clothing or skulls representing skulls? Maybe it’s just cute, many it’s just going against the norm. Whatever the case may be you cannot go far in a mall now-a-days without being bombarded with skulls. They are on cute one piece outfits for your newborn all the way to graphic t-shirts for your middle school child to your stereo-typical biker jacket. Skull clothing is EVERYWHERE and it is attracting people that never would have thought they would “go there”.  When the public was asked why we are wearing skulls as a society, “Box of Rain” responded to the question: “Skulls have long been a powerful symbol across many cultures. They represent the duality of human life… representing both death and life. Few images can invoke the complicated array of subconscious emotions like the image of a skull. As an optimist almost to a fault, I tend to take the positive, life giving view of the skull image.”
Some feel that if you like skulls you MUST worship the devil. That’s the furthest thing from the truth. Amanda B says it well: “I don’t think it means anything more than when the fad was Care Bears, Smurfs or Rainbows…we have a 3 year old little girl and I picked up a pink shirt that had a little black sparkly skull and cross bones on it…I would have bought it except that it was too big for her. And yes, I do go to church – I’m even the President over our children’s Sunday School program! Just b/c it has a skull and crossbones does not make it evil or demonic…but if you don’t like it, then don’t buy it!” Great point Amanda B!

There are enough clothing choices out there for any Mom’s taste. Select what makes you happy and ignore the rest! That is, until your children start demanding clothes from stores other than Janie & Jack!
